Sound off on the important issues at
School: Riverbend Elementary School.
Art of choice: Drawing and painting.
Reason: "I like art because my grandpa Simon Blattner used to work at a art college. I've always wanted to go there; so I've been working on art so when I'm older, I can go to that art college. My grandpa Simon also had a house in California. A lot of famous artists came to his house to do printmaking, and I always thought it was pretty cool with all the designs on them."
All in the family: Her "Aunt Ronalda is a very good artist; she has paintings all over her house. She has also taught me how to draw a lot of Tlingit designs."
Favorite artists: She has always admired her Aunt Ronalda's work.
Future plans: She hopes to continue doing all types of art. "Hopefully some day my art will be in a museum," she said. She also wants to do paintings of wildlife and travel the world.
Activities: She is also a cheerleader for the Tigers and enjoys cooking for her parents.
Her art teacher, Tina Pasteris, says: "Kierstyn approaches each art project with a personal flare and style. Her work is delightful. ... She has a playful and vibrant artistic style that is surprising because she is outwardly rather quiet. ... Her work includes a lot of cartooning, but she is equally open to and capable of producing realistic drawings as well. When she uses color, she makes interesting choices that enhance the overall effect."
