Dangerous streets

I would like to know what exactly the City & Borough of Juneau plans to do about the pedestrian traffic in the Lemon Creek Area, now that someone has died. It seems rather a sick joke for those of us that live in the area, those of us who have dodged cars trying to cross the street to Kmart.

And what about the road to Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School? Why is it that CBJ planned so poorly and put a cross walk two blocks down the road, and put in school zone lights that aren't even in front of the school?

Do we have to wait for a child to be hit by a motor vehicle before something is done? Apparently - because our Assembly members are more concerned about doing studies on the feasibility of a road out of Juneau instead of maintaining the roads within the borough.

As a 15-year resident of the Lemon Creek area, I would like to see not only flashing crosswalk lights on our existing crosswalks in front of Kmart and the road to the new police station, but also to see the existing school zone moved in front of the road to Dzantik'i Heeni, along with a lighted crosswalk similar to the one at Floyd Dryden. I would also like to see it happen fast - before someone else gets hurt.
