CENTRAL - A North Pole man on a hunting trip near Central accidentally shot himself in the leg and was flown to Fairbanks for treatment.
Alaska State Troopers said 33-year-old Stephen P. Ellis suffered an injury Sunday that was not considered to be life-threatening.
Ellis was attempting to put on a shoulder harness when his pistol fell out and fired.
The shot hit Ellis in the leg.
Central is a community on the Steese Highway about 125 miles northeast of Fairbanks. It has a population of about 100.
