The Alaska Professional Fire Fighters announced its endorsement of Lisa Murkowski in Alaska's upcoming U.S. Senate race, its president said Wednesday.
Mark Drygas, the head of the 490-member union, told the Empire of its decision to make the endorsement, saying "Lisa Murkowski has always been a supporter of firefighters' issues, and safety issues in general."
The union's executive board reached its decision last week at a meeting in Girdwood, Drygas said.
Murkowski announced her decision Friday to be a write-in candidate for the Nov. 2 general election. She will challenge Joe Miller, the GOP candidate she lost to in the primary, and Democrat Scott McAdams for the seat.
