KETCHIKAN - A recently retired Ketchikan police sergeant is accused of spanking and bruising a toddler.
John Alguire retired in early September, less than a month after Alaska State Troopers began investigating the allegations involving the 2-year-old girl.
The 49-year-old Alguire is charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic violence.
According to court documents, the girl had stayed since January at the Alguire home and the family was potty-training her.
Alguire is accused of spanking the girl Aug. 6 after she urinated in her chair at the dinner table.
Authorities say troopers were notified four days later by a witness.
Court documents say the child had bruises measuring about 3 inches by 3 inches on each buttock.
