The Crimson Bears won two-of-three team competitions against West Anchorage and South Anchorage on Friday and Saturday.

Juneau-Douglas' Ling Chan provided the highlight of the trip as she upset the Wolverines' Emma Lewis in three sets Saturday. Chan won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to hand Lewis her first high school loss.

Lewis won the unofficial state championship last year as a freshman. This year will be the first time an official Alaska School Activities Association state championship will take place.

Laurel Messerschmidt won three times over the weekend. On Friday, she teamed up with Steffan Wilcox to beat the Eagles Emily Cao and Tim Crandall 6-3, 6-2. Saturday, Messerschmidt defeated South's Liz Kwon 6-4, 6-0 and West's Meredith Woodard 6-3, 6-0.

Juneau's mixed doubles team of Nathan Graves and Lyndsey Kelly defeated South's Aurora Landau and Graham Dekeyser 6-2, 6-1.

Also, Dream Suchitbharabitya joined forces with Chan to knock off West's Chloe Cotton and Megan Murphy 6-0, 6-2 on Friday.

The Crimson Bears will practice at home until the state championships on Oct. 12-13 in Anchorage.
