FAIRBANKS - The Fortymile caribou hunt officially closed Tuesday.
The Department of Fish and Game closed hunting in the last of three fall Fortymile caribou hunts because hunters were expected to reach the harvest quota of 160 animals.
The state shut down the other two fall Fortymile hunts along the Steese and Taylor highways last month because hunters had reached the harvest quotas in those areas.
Those numbers were 290 and 190, respectively.
The federal subsistence hunts in all three Fortymile hunts are also closed.
The total harvest quota for the fall Fortymile hunts was 640 caribou.
