The Canvas will be open for two new all-ages activities on Sunday at their 223 Seward St. location.
From 1-5 p.m., a make-your-own checker and chess set class will be offered. Potter Barbara Lydon will be on hand to help participants form their creations out of clay. Teams or families of creators are encouraged. Space is limited, so call to reserve a spot. The cost of making a checker set is $35 and for chess sets its $65, and includes materials, glazing and firing.
At the same time, a Community Tree project will be underway. People of all ages are invited to join in building branches and leaves for this sculptural art piece using recycled aluminum glass and sculptural wire. Drop in between 1-5 p.m. This free family event is supported in part by the Alaska Association of School Boards.
