Knik construction halted after remains found

Posted: Thursday, September 24, 2009

KNIK - An excavator found human remains while doing foundation work for a warehouse next to the Knik Museum.

Mat-Su Borough officials say they used ground-penetrating radar to search for burial sites before digging and found nothing. The borough has agreed to pay for DNA testing and for reburial in a nearby cemetery.

Construction is now on hold, and borough officials say it has not been decided if they will continue laying the foundation where they found the bones.
