MILLERSBURG, Mo. - Callaway County officials have identified a man who died in the crash of a single-engine plane.
The victim of Tuesday's crash was 31-year-old Jared F. Hobaugh from Alaska.
The sheriff's department said in a news release that Hobaugh bought the plane Sunday at an airshow in Pennsylvania and was flying it to Wichita, Kan., where he has family.
He then planned to fly the plane back to Alaska, where Houbaugh worked as a tour guide.
Sheriff Dennis Crane said witnesses reported seeing the 1947 Piper airplane flying near the ground and heard a sputtering engine before it crashed in a pasture about five miles east of the Columbia Regional Airport.
