JPD officer arraigned on alleged sex abuse of minor

Posted: Friday, September 24, 2010

A Juneau Police Department officer was arraigned on two felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor in Juneau District Court Thursday afternoon.

Judge John Siversten Jr. set a preliminary hearing for Brian Ervin, who is accused of committing the abuse, for 11 a.m. on Oct. 21. That could change if Ervin is indicted by a grand jury.

Siversten prohibited Ervin from making contact, directly or indirectly, with the alleged victim.

"No contact whatsoever," District Attorney Doug Gardner said. "No telephone or e-mail, nothing."

He is also barred from consuming alcohol or going anywhere it is sold or served. Ervin also must remain in Juneau and attend all scheduled court appearances.

Louis Menendez, Ervin's attorney, said his client had no comment.
