Winter hours begin at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center

JUNEAU - Winter hours at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center will begin Thursday.

From October through April, the center will be open with free admission four days per week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Visitors can explore the exhibits, the 11-minute movie and glimpse the terrain through high-power spotting scopes.

The Alaska Geographic bookstore, located inside the visitor center, will close for the winter. The last day to purchase items will be Tuesday.

Forest Explorers, the center's Saturday kids program, will start up again in October. Families are reminded to plan for Halloween fun at the glacier Oct. 30.

The free Friday night Fireside Lecture program will resume in January with cultural and natural history presentations on various topics.
