ANCHORAGE - The office of U.S. Sen. Mark Begich says Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki plans to visit Alaska to see firsthand the needs of veterans living in rural parts of the state.
Begich spokeswoman Julie Hasquet says Shinseki met Wednesday with the Alaska Democrat, who is a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.
Hasquet says that at the meeting Begich reiterated his support for a recent decision to add three more ailments to a list of diseases associated with exposure to the toxic defoliant Agent Orange during the Vietnam war.
Vietnam veterans with diseases on the list are automatically covered under disability compensation.
