Southcentral residents try holding down the heat

ANCHORAGE - Southcentral Alaska utilities and local governments are asking residents to prepare for a possible natural gas shortage this winter.

Emergency officials are asking users to voluntarily turn down the heat between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Oct. 20.

The Anchorage Daily News reports a similar test last October reduced the energy load by about 3 percent.

Natural gas is the main heating fuel in the Southcentral Alaska.
