Juneau Dance Unlimited hires new ballet instructor

The Juneau Dance Unlimited Board of Directors has appointed Joseph Schnell as the studio's new intermediate and advanced ballet instructor.

Schnell has had a full and fulfilling career in dance and said he looks forward to sharing his knowledge and experience with the Juneau community.

He began his ballet training at the Ballet Barre in Fairbanks, then moved to Spokane, Wash. and studied with the Tessa Williams School of Ballet. He then moved to New York City on full scholarship with The School of American Ballet. In 1985, Schnell was awarded a full scholarship with The Joffrey Ballet School, and in 1987 joined Joffrey's main company and danced as a principle until 1997. From 1997 to 2002 he was a soloist with The Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Canada. In 2002, he moved to New Orleans and became professor of dance at Tulane University. He also taught at New Orleans Academy of Dance and the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts.

Juneau Dance Unlimited is non-profit organization providing the Juneau community with dance instruction and performance opportunities throughout the year. The dance studio celebrates its 33rd anniversary this year.
