The Alaska Historical Society has extended the deadline on applications for its 2008 Conference Travel Awards.
Students and new professionals interested in the history and culture of Alaska may receive up to $500 to attend the annual conference, held at the University of Alaska Anchorage from Oct. 16-18. The award will be given in the form of reimbursement for documented expenses. Winners will also receive basic registration and tickets to attend the conference's Friday night banquet and Saturday wards luncheon.
Each recipient will be introduced at the banquet and will be invited to submit a short article for the historical society's newsletter.
All applicants must be 2008 members of the Alaska Historical Society. Each applicant for the student award must be a graduate student or upper-division undergraduate in spring or fall 2008 with a course of study related to Alaska history and cultures. Each applicant for the professional award must be currently employed in Alaska historical or cultural work and have been so employed for less than five years at time of applying. Applicants are encouraged to propose presentations for the meeting.
Applications must be sent by Sept. 30, and electronic submission is preferred. More information is available on the Web at www.alaskahistoricalsociety.org.
