ANCHORAGE - Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell is doing his own bit of foreign relations.

Parnell is stepping in for many official duties while Gov. Sarah Palin is on the campaign trail. Palin, GOP presidential candidate John McCain's running mate, was in New York this week meeting with several world leaders.

Parnell and Iceland President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson on Wednesday discussed areas of common interest between the two, including renewable energy and economic development.

Grimsson has invited Alaskans to visit Iceland to investigate further the role geothermal energy can play in Alaska's economy.
