It didn't take long for Sarah Palin to get that Washington, D.C., affliction, "Potomac Fever." An affliction where the head swells, mostly due to egomania and the Peter Principle, in which someone is promoted beyond their level of competence and power becomes an obsession.
I have been fascinated by the similarities between Sarah Palin and Frank Murkowski. Both are obtuse. Both are arrogant. Both think they are above the law. Both do not like criticism. Both support "bridges to nowhere." Both support mining pollution in Alaska salmon spawning streams. Both advocate killing wolves and bears from airplanes. Both advocate noncontractual arrangements for natural gas pipelines. Both support irresponsible Alaska development at any cost. And both are dishonest.
Murkowski was Alaska's worst-ever governor, and Palin is running for the vice presidency of the United States. What is wrong with this picture? It is truly scary.
Like it or not, Sen. John McCain is and has been a lackey for Bush policies for nearly eight years, and George W. Bush, like Murkowski, is recognized as worst of the worst in history.
So, what is McCain selling? Answer: Palin. Not because she's good but because she was better than Alaska's worst, when any way was up. She's his pandering answer to the religious right. It is a sad day for the U.S. Republican party and America.
