As a member of the greater Hoonah community, I would like to thank all those who attended the memorial service for Anthony Wallace and Matthew Tokuoka. Truly, we have many caring neighbors coming from that service. I have a new respect for our military and law enforcement personnel. They lay down their lives to serve us. At times, some of those lives are lost. Keenly feeling the loss, one officer choked back tears as he said to me, "All of us have lost buddies. We want to stand with others in their time of loss."
Although memorials such as this are not unusual among these fine people, Hoonah's service was very large. It was special to us in Hoonah, not only in that it was large and attended by dignitaries, but in that so many people in uniform were there. I was humbled and deeply touched by the tremendous honor and respect that was shown toward our two fallen officers. We were all ennobled. Thank you so much to all who made the effort to attend. God bless you all.
