Dr. Jennifer L. Jozwiak, D.C. of Chiropractic First is proud to announce that Jonathan Schaeffer, L.Ac. (licensed acupuncturist) has joined the team at 8800 Glacier Hwy, Ste. 111 in Juneau.

Jonathan was born in New Orleans, La. After extensive travel in Alaska, he began a 6-month training program in massage therapy in Oregon and continued on with training at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland (OCOM), Oregon in 1989. He graduated in 1992 and traveled to Australia working in the clinic of David Legge, D.O., L. Ac., a well known specialist in the field of painful musculo-skeletal disorders. Other main influences include Dr. Rick Marinelli, N.D., L.Ac., Dr. Satya Ambrose, and Dr. Subhuti Dharmananda, all in the Portland area. Jonathan moved to Juneau at the end of 1992 beginning his practice in the office of Dr. Scott Jamison, N.D., at the Juneau Wellness Center.

In 1995, Jonathan and Suzanne Cortright, L.Ac, created the Open Gate Center for the Oriental Healing Arts in the Emporium building downtown while also providing acupuncture services for two special projects with Gastineau Human Services, the first of its kind in Alaska. He has traveled widely and practiced acupuncture in the Caribbean and with private clients in Argentina, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand.

Jonathan's acupuncture style is rooted in the Eight Principles and Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine with an emphasis on diet and nutrition, exercise and Chinese Herbology. He is also a proponent of chiropractic, massage therapy, and hydrotherapy. Jonathan's interests include skiing, gardening, coffee roasting and making lemoncello. Jonathan and his wife Oni live in the greater Auke Bay area.


Elgee Rehfeld Mertz, Certified Public Accountants in Juneau, is pleased to announce the addition of two accountants to their firm.

Sam Roche, originally from St. Paul, Minn., received his Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting and, in 2009, his Master's Degree in public accountancy from Montana State University in Bozeman.

Adam Sycks was born and raised in Anchorage. He graduated with Bachelor of Science Degrees in both accounting and finance in 2009 from the University of Idaho. Continuing there, he obtained his Master's Degree in accounting in 2010. Both of these young men are excited to make Juneau their home.


Nathan W. Graves, son of Kenneth G. Graves and Jo Anne Bell-Graves, began his first year at the University of Kentucky, which is located in Lexington, Ky.
