ANCHORAGE - Strong, gusty winds are creating unusually dusty conditions in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
The dusty air has prompted Anchorage and the Mat-Su to issue air quality advisories because officials say airborne particles are approaching unhealthy concentrations.
The strong winds are picking up dust from the Matanuska River drainage and sending it toward Anchorage.
People with severe lung disease are being encouraged to stay inside.
The National Weather Service says the strong winds could prevail through Saturday morning.
