ANCHORAGE - Two kiteboarders have abandoned plans to cross the Bering Strait from Alaska to Russia after waiting for nearly a month for ideal weather conditions that didn't materialize.
Forty-three-year-old Troy Henkels, of Eagle River, and 28-year-old Geza Scholtz, of Switzerland, had planned to travel on a kiteboard from Wales on the western tip of the Seward Peninsula across the rough, windy Bering Strait.
The Anchorage Daily News reports the adventurers ended their bid this month after waiting in Wales for days for the right weather conditions.
