Mitch Harp, a lineman for Alaska Electric Light & Power, works on the North Douglas substation switch yard Monday in preparation for tying into a new submarine cable that will bring power to Greens Creek Mine. A specialized cable-laying ship will arrive later this week to lay a 9.5-mile-long cable from North Douglas to Young Bay. The line will allow Greens Creek to switch much of its operation from diesel-electric power to hydroelectric.
