The Senior Health Fair is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5, at the Juneau Senior Center located at the Mountain View Apartments. This event is free for everyone in the community. If you are over 60, or know of someone who is, we urge you to attend. This health fair will assist you in better understanding important health issues facing the elderly. Learn more about home health care and services such as Meals on Wheels and how Medicaid determines eligibility.
On the morning of the fair, blood chemistry tests as well as prostate and thyroid screenings will be available for a low fee from 8 to 11 a.m. Please remember to fast 12 hours ahead of time for blood chemistry screenings. Prior to lunch there will be a chair fitness class presented by Andrea Ebona-Michel from SEARHC. Lunch will be provided to seniors attending. A $3 donation is suggested. You must call (907)586-6231 the day before to reserve lunch. There will be a luncheon speaker, Dr. Corey Pavitt M.D., who will talk about keeping fit and healthy in the senior years. Following lunch there will be free medical screenings to include hearing, vision, glaucoma, blood pressure, height and weight screenings and information on macular degeneration and new methods in the care of osteoporosis.
There will be medical as well as support staff personnel at the fair to discuss individual concerns with adult medical problems, diabetes educational information on management, bone density questions answered by Dr. Jon Reiswig, physical rehabilitation, home health care, care coordination information, senior nutrition, Medicaid and Medicare information, DNR information and hospice related information.
Throughout the day seniors can be transported to Dr. Akiyama's office for free breast and cervical screenings as well as mammography.
