Sour grapes

Posted: Friday, September 28, 2001

In regard to the disparaging comments made about me by former Mayor Dennis Egan on his Thursday "Problem Corner" radio show concerning my editorial comments at www.JuneauBears.com, I have a couple words for Dennis: chill out.

As a working journalist with outlets ranging from Popular Science to International Air Power Review to JuneauBears.com, I am protected by a little thing called the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Yes, I may be the chairman of the Bear Committee but I am also a contributing editor to JuneauBears. The same protection afforded to Dennis, which he used to lambaste all sorts of people while mayor, protects me. His position and comments smack of hypocrisy and sour grapes.

Maybe the questions he should be asking is why he never lifted a finger to put me on a committee (after applying over 10 times) when I all I wanted to do is contribute to my community or even more to the point: Why didn't he do anything solve the bear and garbage problem during his lengthy watch on the Assembly and as mayor?
