Organization description: AWARE provides safe shelter, advocacy, education and support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse, and community prevention/education on these issues. On-the-job training provided for most work; formal training for facilitators provided in Fall/Spring each year. Background check performed (for sex offender history).
A recycling coordinator is needed to be responsible for taking the shelter's recycling to the center. The commitment is only once weekly, and the volunteer would have access to the AWARE vehicle if needed. It is a very flexible schedule. Call or e-mail if you can spare an hour a week to help.
AWARE always has a need for volunteers. If you are interested in other opportunities please contact us or see the Volunteer Center at www.unitedwayseak.org/volunteer.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a weekly feature on the Neighbors page and is in collaboration with the United Way of Southeast Alaska. More volunteer opportunities can be found online at the Volunteer Center of Southeast Alaska, www.unitedwayseak.org.
