There are a number of good candidates, including incumbents, who are running for positions on the Juneau School Board this fall. I am writing to endorse Mark Choate.
I have seen Choate at work over his term on the school board, both as a member and board president. As a member of the Juneau-Douglas High School site council, school district activities advisory committee and school district drug task force, I saw firsthand that Choate was thoughtful and clearly concerned for children.
Choate is a leader (the kind we've needed for a while) who has vision for the school district, a vision that includes what will make for more kids graduating and graduating with higher academic achievement scores.
Choate showed leadership in appointing a board-community committee to bring the district a better budgeting process that can save the district money, target money to board goals, and be understandable to anyone who looks at it.
I am going to vote for Choate and strongly urge Juneau voters to cast a ballot for Choate in the upcoming election.
