ANCHORAGE - A 21-year-old Anchorage man was sentenced to seven years in prison for assaulting a homeless man and setting him on fire.

Prosecutors say Wayne Barras was high on marijuana and cocaine in June 2007 when he came across Hjalmar Christensen and hit him with a rock.

He broke Christensen's cheekbone and nose and knocked him out. Anchorage District Attorney Adrienne Bachman says Barras then put an empty cardboard beer box on Christensen's face and lit it on fire.

Christensen suffered second- and third-degree burns over 15 percent of his body above the shoulders and on his hands and fingers. He spent two months in treatment at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Judge Eric Aarseth on Friday sentenced Barras to 14 years in prison with seven suspended.
