Young not endorsing a Senate candidate

Posted: Tuesday, September 28, 2010

JUNEAU - U.S. Rep. Don Young isn't endorsing a candidate in the Alaska Senate race.

Young, a Republican, wrote on his Facebook page that he would normally support the party's nominee. But he said he has a long history of working with Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and a personal history with her family that is important to him.

Young backed Murkowski in the primary and supported her in her 2004 election.

She was upset in the primary race by Joe Miller, who has since won support from within the national Republican establishment and state GOP. Murkowski has gone on to mount a write-in campaign.

Young, who is seeking a 20th term, said he's focusing on his own race but will remain committed to working with whomever is elected.
