Our way of life

Posted: Friday, September 29, 2000

I disagree with the idea of stopping all tourist flightseeing after 5 p.m. and on Saturdays. I believe that if we stop the flightseeing on Saturdays we are not being fair to the people who visit on that day. Just because they get here on one certain day doesn't mean they shouldn't enjoy the beautiful scenery around Juneau. It isn't really their choice what day they come to Juneau and they should have the same choice of activities as everyone else.

I also disagree with the proposal that there shouldn't be any flightseeing after 5 p.m. Some of the cruise ships don't even arrive until 3 p.m. or later. I think that as the sun sets, it is very beautiful here and if I were a tourist I would love to see it. It just doesn't make sense to not have flightseeing for one full day and stop it after 5 p.m. The activity only goes on for about four months out of the whole year and that isn't very long so I think we should just leave it as it is. The tourists are our way of life in Juneau. If they don't have fun and spend money we wouldn't have money for ourselves.
