Courthouse odor blamed on ventilation

Posted: Tuesday, September 29, 2009

PALMER - Officials at the new courthouse in Palmer have figured out why the smell of sewage was spreading through the building.

It's a ventilation problem. The system was pushing out more exhaust than it had fresh air coming in, so the foul air was drawn from the drain.

The Frontiersman reported authorities are adjusting the dampers. Such ventilation problems are becoming more common as buildings are built to more exact standards for maximum efficiency.

The Palmer courthouse addition that opened in May 2008 gave the building three new courtrooms.
