Proposition 2 serves interests of a narrow group of Juneauites

Posted: Thursday, September 30, 2010

Once again, the financial interests of a narrow group of Juneau citizens is pushing a project that does not serve the overall public or the quality of life in our community.

Friends of the Juneau Libraries held its annual meeting on Saturday at the Mendenhall Valley library. The city pays more than $15,000 a month on rent for this limited facility at the Mendenhall Mall. Funding for the construction of a new library in the valley has been on hold for years and is the No. 1 priority for this organization.

Proposition 2 would tie up the temporary 1 percent sales tax from 2013 to 2023. Not only would this fail to cover the entire cost of an environmentally destructive project in a publicly unapproved location, but it would block consideration of any other capital project such as the Valley Public Library until 2024!

Please get out and vote no on Propostion 2.
