I came to Juneau five years ago from Ketchikan in order to attend University of Alaska Southeast. Shortly thereafter, I met Clancy DeSmet. Clancy was also a student at UAS and what struck me right off the bat about him was his intelligence, compassion and integrity. I have been proud to call him a close friend since then.
Clancy is a true citizen of Juneau. He is a lifelong resident of this town and he has chosen to make it his home. There is a lot of talk about the "brain drain" of Alaska's best and brightest heading south for their education and remaining there to settle and find jobs. Clancy chose to receive his education here and make his career here. He represents the next generation of leaders in Alaska, young men and women who love their home and want to make it a better place to live.
Clancy is running for Borough Assembly in District 2 and I feel that those three virtues he possesses in great abundance intelligence, compassion, and integrity will serve Juneau well. Clancy is the kind of homegrown leadership the Capital City needs and I will be voting for him on Oct. 2.
