Police and Fire

Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:


• Several CDs and $10 were reported stolen from a vehicle near Abby Way. The items were stolen sometime Thursday night.

• A purse was reported stolen at 11:21 a.m. Monday from a residence on Trafalgar Avenue.

Vandalism and criminal mischief:

• A punctured tire on a white Chevy pickup was reported at 4:55 p.m. Monday near Jerry Street. Damage is estimated at $125.

Vehicle accidents:

• No one was cited following a two-vehicle accident caused by an errant sneeze at 9:02 a.m. Monday near Douglas Highway and Lawson Creek Road. A 2002 Saturn struck a 1967 MGB, driven by a man, 51, when the Saturn driver, a woman, 21, sneezed. The MGB driver had stopped his vehicle to pick up a hitchhiker. The Saturn pushed the MGB into the woods. No one was injured as a result of the accident. The Saturn sustained $5,000 in damage while the MGB sustained $2,000 in damage.

• Police cited a woman, 47, for failure to yield and a man, 30, for driving without a valid license following a two-vehicle accident at 1:04 p.m. Monday near Glacier Highway. A white GMC truck, driven by the man, was struck by a red Dodge Neon, driven by the woman. The Neon was totaled and the truck sustained $2,500 in damage.

• Alaska State Troopers reported today a two- vehicle accident in Haines, with damage estimated in excess of $10,000, resulted in no injuries and no citations. Troopers responded around 11:25 a.m. Friday to 9.5 mile Haines Highway and found a vehicle, driven by a woman, 72, stalled in the road. Another vehicle, driven by a man, 63, was unable to stop in time or swerve around the woman's vehicle because of oncoming traffic. The man hit the brakes, causing him to jackknife and leave the road. His vehicle struck the woman's vehicle, continued to slide and came to rest by a rock wall. All occupants in the vehicles were wearing seat belts.

• Bears were reported Monday at 6:22 a.m. near Meadow Lane, 9:57 a.m. near Portage Boulevard and Trio Street, 11:46 a.m. near Jenkins Drive, 12:23 p.m. near Patti Avenue, 1:53 p.m. near Glacier Highway in Lemon Creek, 4:28 p.m. near Glacier Highway in Lemon Creek, 6:05 p.m. near Glacier Highway in Lemon Creek, 8:19 p.m. near Dudley Street, 8:21 p.m. near James Boulevard, 9:51 p.m. near Postal Way, 10:20 p.m. near Haloff Way and 11:52 p.m. near Glacier Highway and Sherwood Lane.

• Bears were reported today at midnight near Thunder Mountain Road, 12:27 a.m. near Thunder Mountain Road, 4:11 a.m. near Glacier Highway and 4:47 a.m. near Nowell Avenue.
