JUNEAU - Those who still need to register to vote or have moved have until Sunday to register or update their existing voter registration for the Nov. 4 general election.
Voter registration is available at any Division of Elections regional office, the municipal clerk's office, the Division of Motor Vehicles, village council offices and at many of the libraries. Registration applications also are available at the division's Web site at www.elections.alaska.gov.
The Division of Elections regional offices will be open the weekend of the registration deadline to assist voters. Offices will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. for voter registration. The Division of Elections also accepts voter registration applications submitted by mail or by fax.
The Division of Elections encourages voters to register or update their voter registration so that it will be effective for the general election. If a voter registers or updates his or her registration after the deadline, the voter will be required to vote a questioned ballot on Election Day. During a presidential election, there is usually a higher voter turnout, and voting a questioned ballot will take voters longer than if a name is on the precinct register.
Any voter who has questions about the registration process is encouraged to contact one of the Division of Elections offices. Yup'ik language assistance is available during the registration process by calling 888-954-8683.
