Teaching artists workshop series begins Nov. 3

Posted: Thursday, October 01, 2009

A six-part workshop series will be offered to local artists interested in working in Juneau's schools, honing skill, strategies and knowledge about working with students of all ages.

The series is sponsored by the Juneau Partnership in Education (PIE) between the Juneau School District and Juneau Arts & Humanities Council, with support from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The series will take place at the JACC on Tuesday evenings from 5 - 7 p.m., starting Nov. 3 and ending on Dec. 8. Sessions will include standards and curriculum, brain research and multiple intelligences, classroom management, lesson and residency planning, and collaborating with teachers.

The cost is $50 for the series or $10 per session. For artists currently on or interested in getting on the Alaska State Council on the Arts Roster, this is an excellent opportunity as they will require that all roster artists complete a series such as this within the next three years in order to qualify.

To register and reserve a space, call the JAHC at 586 -2787.
