ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage Assembly has asked the city attorney to review whether labor contracts approved last year were handled properly.
Former Mayor Mark Begich has been accused of withholding information about failing city finances. He denies the allegation.
The Anchorage Daily News reported the assembly asked City Attorney Dennis Wheeler Tuesday night to review conflicting legal opinions and report back by mid-November.
An attorney hired by the assembly, Joseph Levesque, said two contracts approved in December are invalid because the city's chief financial officer didn't certify funds were available. An attorney for the firefighters union disagreed.
