The Westmark Baranof Hotel is being sold by its current owner, Holland America Lines, to a Nevada-based company called B & B.

General manager Steve Hamilton said the transaction will take effect January 24.

B & B is a limited liability company that owns several hotels, including Best Western hotels in Fairbanks and Seward.

"They're currently looking at it as an investment property," Hamilton said.

Hamilton said the deal will include the hotel keeping the name Westmark Baranof Hotel and for Holland America Lines to continue to manage it. He said everything about the hotel will remain the same and he anticipates no changes in operations.

This includes the staff. Hamilton said the entire crew and management will keep their jobs. He said there will be no layoffs or rehires.

"Nothing is changing except the ownership," he said.

Hamilton said it was B & B who initiated the transaction. The hotel had never been on the market but the company expressed an interest, he said.

He said the deal has been in discussions since the summer. He notified the employees last week once the sale was completed.

"All of my staff and I are looking forward to a great relationship with the new owners," Hamilton said.

He said the new owners will inspect the hotel annually.

The Westmark Baranof Hotel opened in 1939. Hamilton said Holland America Lines took ownership in 1987.
