Story hour set at Douglas Library Community Building

The Juneau Public Library will join Capital City Fire Rescue at noon on Oct. 12, at the Douglas Public Library for a fire prevention story hour for kids.

This event will take place at the Douglas Library Community Building. Youth service staff from the library will share stories and songs that are related to fire safety. Following story time, the firefighters will show the children their gear and the hour will close with a tour of the fire trucks. For more information, please call Carol at 586-0434.

AWARE offers volunteer training

The AWARE shelter is offering a volunteer advocacy training starting Oct. 11. This training includes information on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. The training provides practical experience in crisis intervention and advocacy skills. Part one of the training is open to the public and offers an overview of topics. Part two is for AWARE volunteers and staff and focuses on advocacy skills. No experience is necessary. The training is provided free of charge and will be held at AWARE.
