I just don't understand why pro-development interests so actively oppose the Dimond Park community center aquatic facility. Not only will construction and operation provide a significant number of local jobs, the aquatic facility will be a premier attraction for out of town visitors, enhancing Juneau's status as a regional center. These visitors will spend money to stay in our hotels and eat at our restaurants, all of which increase our tax revenues.
Given Juneau's population, water orientation and notoriously bad weather, Juneau needs a second pool. If the argument is first things first, the valley pool has long been high on the city's priority list and is further in the planning process than any of the other proposed projects in Proposition 1. This means construction and jobs can begin soon. The aquatic facility is first on my list. Grow Juneau's economy and quality of life. Vote yes for the aquatic facility.
