Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Adult Ordway Basketball League team signups - The Juneau Department Parks and Recreation will be holding signups on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Assembly Chambers. Late registration will be held Friday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office. There will be a $10 late fee for late registration. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Women's Classic League - The league is designed for women who enjoy basketball and want to play for fun but with women who are new to the game or have limited time. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation basketball referees meeting - Starting Oct. 5 through Nov. 9, there will be mandatory basketball official meetings for the Juneau Parks and Recreation basketball league. Midnight Suns Fastpitch Softball Association fall tryouts - Fall tryouts take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, Sunday, Oct. 2, and Monday, Oct. 3 at the Riverbend Elementary School gym. Players wanting to participate in winter tournaments need to attend these tryouts. Women's indoor soccer league - The CCSL will be sponsoring the women's indoor classic soccer league starting Oct. 3. The league is open to women of all skill levels and ages. Teams play one game per week on Monday nights at Mt. Jumbo gym. Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays starting Sept. 6 and going through April 28. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee or punchcards for $10 or $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th St. in Douglas. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
