Even in Russian we have not enough words to express our deepest grief about victims of the terrible events in New York and Washington on Sept. 11. My wife Irina and I are sending our condolences to all Americans, our desire to find and punish those monsters who have planned and done this evil deed.
I understand my letter will be delivered to you not so quickly and may be as to touch the hardly healed wound but, please, believe us, our souls are bleeding together with you. Take courage.
Irina and Vladimir Mann
Capt. Vladimir Mann is a former officer in the Soviet Navy who has visited Juneau several times, most recently as the leader of the sailing expedition that retraced Capt. Vitus Bering's 1741 voyage to Alaska on the 250th anniversary of that event. The letter was sent to Skip and Lynn Wallen of Juneau, who forwarded it to the Empire.
