Teen sentenced in 2006 death

ANCHORAGE - A 19-year-old Anchorage man has been sentenced to five years in prison for the 2006 shooting death of his best friend.

Scott Bombard was 16 years old when he fatally shot 17-year-old Dustin Colgrove while playing with a gun.

Three state Superior Court judges handed down the sentence Wednesday after an earlier judge believed leniency might apply here.

Bombard made a deal with the state in March to plead to manslaughter.

The judges said they didn't believe a lengthy sentence would serve him or society well.

Authorities say that on the night of the killing, Bombard's mother bought her son, Colgrove and another boy an 18-pack of Budweiser.

The teens were allowed to drink as long as they stayed in the home.
