Congress should slow down on greenhouse gas regs

Posted: Sunday, October 03, 2010

On January 2, 2011, new EPA regulations regarding greenhouse emissions on businesses, small and large throughout the nation, will go into effect unless Congress acts to block them. While I whole-heartedly agree with the goal of these new regs, I disagree with the timing and the permitting requirements.

We all want cleaner power sources and to get away from our dependence on fossil fuels, but in our pursuit of a cleaner environment we need to be cognizant of the economic impact on thousands of small businesses across the country, especially during this economically challenging time.

Transition from one fuel source to another takes time. Yes, we should have started decades ago but we didn't. In making the move forward now we need to be cautious of moving too fast and destroying the lifestyle and the economy our country enjoys today. Congress needs to step in and slow down the implementation of these new proposed regulations.
