The Department of Fish and Game, Sport Fish Division, is proposing to release hatchery-raised king salmon into Glacier, Moraine and Crystal Lakes in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area, according to a news release. The project is an extension of the division's freshwater stocking program and is in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service.
The release states the proposed stocking would use the same stock of hatchery fish released into Twin Lakes. It states the first stocking would be in late October and would consist of planting about 500 king salmon into each of the three lakes. Subsequent stocking would be in the spring of 2011.
The stocking project is subject to a minimum 10-day public comment period. Comments must be received by Oct. 15. They must be submitted to Daniel Teske at Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Sport Fish Division at P.O. Box 110024, Juneau, AK 99811-0024 or 907-465-8152 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
