Seven Juneau-area residents finished the Portland Marathon on Sunday in Portland, Ore.
Thomas Meyer of Juneau posted the fastest time by a local, taking 126th place among the 3,166 male finishers with a time of 3 hours, 5 minutes, 53 seconds. Brian Goettler of Juneau took 155th in 3:08:29, John Hickey of Juneau was 209th in 3:13:10, Leif Brottem of Juneau was 1,754th in 4:19:19 and Gary Moeller of Auke Bay was 2,105th in 4:35:52.
Among the women, Valerie Bue of Douglas was the top local runner as she took 1,966th place out of the 2,449 female finishers with a time of 4:30:42. Mary Eileen Bedore of Auke Bay finished 1,966th in 5:20:31.
Sitka players take four all-conference spots
The first-year Sitka Wolves football team claimed four first-team spots on the All-Greatland Conference Team announced Monday.
Matt Mangini picked up two of the spots, as both a wide receiver and a return specialist. On defense, Thor Hartwig was honored at defensive end/outside linebacker and Mike Loucks earned a spot as an interior lineman.
David Holloway of Nikiski was named the conference's offensive player of the year, while Houston's Travis Webb was defensive player of the year, Seward's Darien Draper was utility player of the year, Nikiski's Gabe Lavigueur was lineman of the year and Nikiski's Scott Anderson was coach of the year.
