Author

Alaska writer and photographer Nick Jans, book-signing and presentation, 7 p.m. Saturday, downtown library. Jans is an essayist and author of "Last Light Breaking," "A Place beyond" and "Tracks of the Unseen."

Dance

Juneau International Folk Dancers, 7:30 p.m. every Friday at Scottish Rite Temple. Instruction and request dancing, all welcome. Bring clean, softsoled shoes.

Juneau contra dance, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Parish Hall, birthday, retirement and welcome-to-town celebration and dance.

Theater

Exhibits

The Perfect Art Exhibit, original comic book art featuring "Captain Perfect," by Juneau artist Glen Fairchild, opening Friday at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council Gallery, 206 N. Franklin St., opening reception 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., show through Oct. 26.

Showcase of Juneau Beadwork, exhibit at The Juneau Douglas City Museum, opens with a reception at 1 p.m. Saturday, with demonstrations and activities.
