In season: King and dungeness crab, halibut and rockfish (peaks June-Sept.), coho salmon (June-Nov.), deer (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), mountain goat (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), wolf (Aug.-April), grouse (Aug.-May), ptarmigan (Aug.-May), ducks, geese, brants, swans, snipe, crane (Sept.-Dec.), moose, (Sept.-Oct.), coyote (Sept.-April), hare (Sept.-April), brown bear (Sept.-Dec.), black bear (Sept.-mid-Oct.) and crow (Sept.-mid-Nov.)

October: Peak month for freshwater steelhead trout.

Oct.-April: Juneau Archery Club adult indoor shoot in the Floyd Dryden Middle School commons area.

Oct. 4: Juneau Sailing Club Monthly Meeting at the Breakwater Inn, guest speaker 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Oct. 6: Fall Harbor Racing Series, Round 3, noon-4 p.m., Juneau Harbor.

Oct. 6: Alpine Club Bullard climb. This will be a 10-hour, high-intensity, 8-mile hike requiring ice ax and crampons. Call hike leader Bill Forrest, 798-3008.

Oct. 13: Alpine Club Hawthorne Peak climb. This will be an 11-mile hike, high intensity hike requiring an ice ax and crampons. Call hike leader Dave Lefebvre, 789-4099.

Oct. 13: Smallbore rifle silhouette at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m.

Oct. 13: Fall Harbor Racing Series, Rd 4, 12 p.m.- 4 p.m. Juneau Harbor.

Oct. 13: Juneau Archery Club IBEP class. For information and registration, call Marv Walters at 789-0942 or stop by and see Lon Hadfield at Archery Outfitters. Completion of the IBEP class and certification is required to hunt in archery-only areas and hunts in Alaska.

Oct. 16: No moon.

Oct. 2: Alpine Club Glacier Walk, a 3-mile hike, five- to seven-hour hike requiring an ice ax and crampons. Call hike leader Tim Arness, 789-9119.

Oct. 21: Sporting rifle, at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m.

Oct. 25: Trail Mix monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School Library. Call 790-6406.

Oct. 28: High power rifle event, at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m.

Oct. 31: Blue moon (second full moon in one month.

Nov. 1: Juneau Sailing Club monthly meeting, guest speaker and annual election of officers, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Breakwater Inn.

Nov. 2-4: 5th Annual Sitka Whalefest with educational lectures from biologists and speakers, concert, trade fair, marine tours, and more. Call (907) 747-7964 for details.

Nov. 3-4: Bowhunter's weekend at Oliver Inlet.

Nov. 7-11: Annual Alaska Bald Eagle Festival in Haines to celebrate the annual congregation of up to 4,000 eagles along the banks of the Chilkat River with educational seminars, special tours and family events. Call (907) 766-2202.

Nov. 7: Juneau Archery Club board meeting at Collinsworth's.

Nov. 10: Feb. 15: Wolverine hunting.

Nov. 10: April 30: Trapping season for wolves and wolverine.

Nov. 16- Sept. 15: Only unbaited, artificial lures may be used for fresh water sportfishing.
