Take voting seriously

Posted: Thursday, October 04, 2001

Pathetic! A voter turnout of 24.9 percent is simply pathetic! You may say the election was not a "big one" so it doesn't matter if I vote or not. Our right to vote has been protected by the sacrifices of many men and women and should not be taken for granted! In the aftermath of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, we all rush to display our American flags to tout our patriotism, yet we give up one of our greatest rights by not voting.

Here we are concerned about losing our freedom of speech and right to privacy but we do not vote. The people overseas who are jeering at our loss of life and who have scared many of us into buying gas masks and other such devices would laugh even harder to hear about this. So, I would recommend you think about why you have our American flag waving off your porch or posted in your yard. Think about what it means to be an American and if you're not willing to take on that responsibility I would suggest you remove your flag. For those of you who have voted, I commend you and thank you for voicing your opinion. If this letter offends you, I hope to see you at the polls next time we have the opportunity to use our freedom of speech.
