In August, I attended the City Assembly meeting for placing the North Douglas crossing on the ballot. I listened quietly while I watched several elderly gentlemen present their reasons for not approving the crossing. I, however, testified for the proposition. It was the first time I had ever done anything like that, but I feel this is an important issue. I am a young mother and wife with a very young son. My husband and I work very hard to pay our bills, and provide for our family. However, I am afraid those who oppose this project so strongly now will not be here in 10 or 15 years, while young families like ours will.
Our community should not be afraid of growth and proper development. I believe Juneau needs this development for a comfortable future for us, younger families, and the families to follow. This project will not only provide Juneau with much needed jobs but will also make way for further development. I know that many of the people that oppose this project are successful and comfortable, but many of us are still working and trying to be successful ourselves. Without long term economic and housing development, Juneau will continue to experience stifled growth instead of flourishing as it should. Please consider this when you are making your decision, and please vote yes on Proposition 2.
